Meghan Markle's Father and Half-Brother Engage in Public Feud Amidst Philippines Move
Estranged father and son, Thomas and Thomas Jr. Markle, are locked in a bitter dispute over abuse allegations following a relocation to the Philippines.
Years of estrangement and conflict between Thomas Markle and his son, Thomas Markle Jr., have resurfaced with allegations of child sex abuse, despite their recent move to the Philippines for a fresh start. The dispute highlights a tumultuous father-son relationship marked by Thomas Markle Sr.'s repeated attempts to support his son, often met with frustration.
According to Samantha Markle, Thomas Jr.'s older sister, her brother struggled with issues including dropping out of school at 14 and a focus on partying. She stated that their father was frequently disappointed and financially bailing out his son, citing instances such as unpaid lease payments for a truck and a failed flower shop investment.
Thomas Jr.'s legal troubles include an arrest in 2017 for pulling a gun on his girlfriend and another in 2019 on suspicion of driving under the influence. Samantha described her father as increasingly disillusioned with his son's behavior, leading him to distance himself due to what she called Tom Jr.'s "heavy drinking and behavior."
Despite the strained relationship, Thomas Jr. became his father's primary caregiver after Thomas Markle Sr. suffered a massive stroke in 2022. Thomas Jr. relocated from Oregon to Rosarito, Mexico, to provide support. However, he later complained of verbal abuse from his father and feeling treated like a servant.
In January 2025, the father and son moved to the Philippines, intending to live in adjacent apartments. Samantha expressed concerns that her brother was reluctant to take their father to the hospital when he complained of leg pain, which eventually led to a blood clot and amputation.
The current fallout intensified earlier this summer after a family member accused Thomas Jr. of allegedly taking money from his father's account, leading to the cessation of his debit card access. Samantha stated that when the money stopped, "Tom turned on dad. Then he started making these accusations... He told me he was going to totally destroy dad and that is what he is trying to do."
Conversely, Thomas Jr. has asserted that his father was verbally abusive for years and used finances as a means of control. He expressed regret, stating, "I gave up years of my life to take care of him. I wish I could take those years back."
