Meghan Markle's Father Admits Paying for Sex, Denies Child Abuse Claims
Thomas Markle claims Metropolitan Police sat on allegations for seven years; Filipino authorities investigating hoarding claims.
Thomas Markle, the estranged father of the Duchess of Sussex, has admitted to paying for sex in the Philippines but vehemently denies sleeping with underage girls. The 82-year-old asserted his innocence amid accusations of child sex crimes, stating, "I have never had sex with anyone under the age of 18."
Markle acknowledged traveling to the Philippines at least twice and engaging in sex with prostitutes while he was single, adding, "I like Asian women but that is not a crime." His remarks come as the Metropolitan Police face scrutiny for reportedly withholding a letter containing sex abuse claims against him for over seven years.
Meghan Markle had previously stated she was assured the "troubling and disturbing" allegations were under investigation. However, the Met Police admitted they failed to forward details of "alleged offending outside the UK" to relevant law enforcement agencies in the US, Mexico, and the Philippines, where Markle has resided.
Filipino authorities have initiated an investigation into the former Hollywood lighting technician for alleged hoarding of child-sex images. One photograph reportedly depicts a man resembling Markle with a young Asian girl, a claim Markle denies.
During a two-hour interview, Markle expressed his willingness to cooperate with investigators, take a lie detector test, and believes his son, Tom Jnr, who reported him to the police, may be involved. He also claimed that Meghan has prevented him from seeing his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, due to unresolved accusations.
Markle, who relocated to Cebu City in the Philippines last year and is currently in a Florida nursing facility recovering from a leg amputation, stated he would have defended himself if Meghan or others had approached him about the letter in 2018. "Why did Meghan not ask me about it?" he questioned, vowing to "do whatever it takes to clear my name."
His son, Tom Jnr, 60, claims to have discovered child abuse images on computers his father left in the Philippines, leading him to report his father to the police. Officials confirmed Markle is under investigation by the anti-trafficking and anti-child abuse task force in Cebu City, and the FBI is poised to launch its own inquiry.
Meghan's half-sister, Samantha, suggested that any images of her father with a young-looking Asian woman might be of his former girlfriends, noting that some Asian women appear younger than their age. Markle, who was previously married to Tom Jnr and Samantha's mother, Roslyn Loveless, and Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, maintained he has always dated age-appropriate women.
Tom Jnr alleges he found the material in storage boxes containing his father's computer and phone. Markle, however, stated his computer and phone were shipped from Mexico and he had not had access to them for nearly two years, suggesting any incriminating material could have been planted.
Samantha Markle supports her father's claim of a setup, pointing out that Tom Jnr had possession of the boxes. Police in the Philippines seized four boxes of evidence, and the FBI is aware of the allegations. Markle has welcomed a forensic examination of his computer and pledged full cooperation.
He also addressed claims about books found in his possession, including "Hollywood Lolitas: The Nymphet Syndrome in the Movies," stating they are historical texts. The Metropolitan Police confirmed receiving a letter in 2019 regarding alleged offending outside the UK and passing it to the Sussexes, but not to other law enforcement agencies. Meghan's spokesperson later clarified she may have been mistaken about the year she was informed.
Markle has recently been diagnosed with cognitive issues, a detail his daughter Samantha stated was shared with her authorization. She described her father as "incredibly fragile both physically and mentally" and called her brother's actions "incredibly cruel."
Samantha Markle also questioned Meghan's explanation for the estrangement, noting that Prince Harry previously suggested in a 2022 documentary that the rift stemmed from Markle's collaboration with a photographer before the royal wedding. She argued that the language used by Meghan and Harry in interviews did not align with cutting someone out for being a "child predator."
Sources close to the couple have indicated that legal constraints prevented Meghan from publicly discussing the allegations to avoid jeopardizing any investigation.
