Meghan Markle Returns to British Designers for First UK Outing with Prince Harry Since Move
The Duchess of Sussex donned an all-British designer ensemble for a visit to Nottingham, echoing her fashion choices from an earlier public appearance.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made their first official joint outing in the United Kingdom since relocating on Thursday, with the Duchess of Sussex opting for a coordinated look from British designers. The couple visited Nottingham, a city that holds significance for their early public appearances.
Markle wore a burgundy Joseph wool-and-cashmere coat over a matching cashmere turtleneck. She paired these with a purple crepe midi skirt by The Fold London and Jennifer Chamandi pumps. Her accessories included a Joseph bag, a leather skinny belt, and minimal jewelry: Cartier's Love bracelet, Princess Diana's Tank Française watch, her Welsh gold wedding band, a gold signet ring, and her Oura ring.
The choice of Joseph, a London-based label, marked a callback to Markle's first walkabout as Prince Harry’s fiancée in December 2017. At that time, she also visited Nottingham and wore a Joseph skirt, a Wolford turtleneck, and a navy coat. The Duchess, who was 45 at the time of the recent outing, reflected on the pressure of adhering to royal dress codes during Netflix’s 2022 docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” recalling questions about whether her jewelry choices were appropriate and if designers were British.
Prince Harry, 42, wore a gray blazer, white shirt, and jeans for their visit to the Community Recording Studio, an organization supporting young people affected by violence. During their walkabout, Markle was heard telling a well-wisher, "It's great to be back." When presented with a photograph from their 2017 visit, she responded, "That’s so special."
The Sussexes, who now reside in the Cotswolds with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have maintained a relatively low profile since their move in August. Markle has made several solo appearances, including attending tea with Malala Yousafzai and launching a charity sweatshirt she helped design.
