Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Not Planning Apology to Prince William, Kate Middleton, Sources Say
Reports suggesting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will express regret over their 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview have been dismissed as 'total rubbish' by royal journalists.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are not planning to apologize to Prince William and Kate Middleton for their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to reports citing royal sources.
Contrary to claims published by the Daily Express, which suggested the couple were preparing to "express their regrets" and "eat humble pie," royal journalist Tom Sykes told Page Six that such reports are "total rubbish." A source close to Prince Harry also dismissed the apology rumors as "made up."
"Harry has always said he will never apologize for anything," Sykes stated, adding that he believes the Duke of Sussex and Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, harbor no regret over the explosive interview.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield echoed this sentiment, telling Page Six that the couple "remain defiant" and that her own sources have confirmed the apology story is "absolutely not true." Schofield advised treating claims of regret with "serious skepticism."
In March 2021, Markle and Harry sat down with Winfrey for a two-hour interview that aired on CBS. During the program, Markle alleged that a member of the royal family had expressed concerns about "how dark" their son Archie's skin might be before his birth. She also claimed she was informed that Archie would not receive a royal title or security and stated she had experienced suicidal thoughts during her time as a working royal. Markle also asserted that it was Kate Middleton who made her cry during wedding preparations, not the other way around, a detail previously reported as the opposite.
Prince Harry, when asked by Winfrey about the conversation regarding Archie's skin color, stated, "That conversation I am never going to share, but at the time it was awkward; I was a little shocked." He did not elaborate further.
Following the interview and their decision to step back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Markle relocated to Montecito, California, with their children, Archie and Lilibet. The move and their public statements have been widely seen as contributing to an ongoing rift with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
In August, the couple returned to the UK, but King Charles III clarified that they would not be resuming official royal duties. While they have been seen in public on a few occasions, they have largely maintained a low profile. Reports suggest they may be living in the Cotswolds area.
Despite their return to the UK, Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly still maintaining distance from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The sources close to the couple indicate that Harry and Meghan are defiant and have not expressed any regrets about their past statements, contrary to earlier reports.
