Meghan Markle paid tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by wearing her diamond and sapphire earrings during a gala in Canada. The Duchess of Sussex donned the significant jewelry on Friday evening while attending an event celebrating the 40th anniversary of music producer David Foster's foundation.
Markle, who wore a black gown by Canadian designer Greta Constantine, was accompanied by Prince Harry. He was seen in a classic black tuxedo.
The couple joined other notable attendees, including Foster's wife Katharine McPhee, Adam Levine, and Josh Groban, at the gala. The event was followed by a free concert in Victoria's Inner Harbour on Saturday.
Foster, a close friend of the Sussexes, has a bond with Markle that dates back to their shared middle school in Los Angeles. McPhee, Foster's wife, previously described her connection with Markle to “Access,” noting that her sister was in Markle's middle school class.
This is not the first time Markle has honored Princess Diana's style. In April, she spoke about Prince Harry's observations that Markle shares similarities with his mother, including compassion, empathy, and confidence. During a 2024 trip to Nigeria, Markle wore a gold cross necklace that was reportedly Diana's. The previous year, she was seen wearing Diana's Cartier watch.
Princess Diana died in a car accident in 1997 at the age of 36. Markle, who never met Diana, has spoken about her admiration for her late mother-in-law. In an interview, Markle stated, "It's beautiful. I wish I could have met her."
