Meghan Markle Cut Contact With Father Amid Child Sex Abuse Images Probe

Meghan Markle has revealed that her decision to cut off contact with her father, Thomas Markle Sr., was motivated by a desire to protect her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, from disturbing allegations. These allegations involve accusations that her father collected child sex abuse images, leading to an ongoing probe by authorities in the Philippines and potential investigation by the FBI.

Meghan stated that she was first made aware of "troubling and disturbing" accusations against her father in 2018, the same year she ceased contact with him. The Duchess of Sussex expressed her deep distress over the recent revelations, emphasizing that her estrangement from her father was solely to "safeguard" their children. She added that she trusted authorities were taking similar protective measures for other families.

Her half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., has alleged that he discovered a significant collection of child sex abuse images on computers and phones in storage boxes belonging to their father, who had recently moved from the Philippines to the United States for health reasons. Thomas Markle Sr. is currently undergoing treatment in a rehabilitation center after a leg amputation.

Thomas Markle Sr. has vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them as "sick lies" fabricated by his son, who he claims is seeking money. He asserted that he has never possessed such material and questioned the proof presented.

According to Meghan's statement, a letter concerning the allegations against her father was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection in 2018. This letter was subsequently shared with her, and she was given assurances that the matter was being investigated. The Met Police have confirmed they are looking into reports that officers were involved in passing on a letter in 2018 and are conducting internal inquiries.

Authorities in the Philippines have confirmed that the Department of Justice's Anti-Trafficking and OSAEC task force is investigating reports involving an American national in his 80s accused of possessing child abuse videos and photos. The FBI is also understood to be considering its own investigation and has reportedly reached out to Philippine authorities for potential collaboration.

Thomas Markle Jr. claims he found the alleged material in July of the current year while searching through his father's boxes for a phone. He reported his findings to the FBI and the U.S. Center for Abused and Exploited Children before taking the material to local police in Cebu, Philippines.

Legal experts suggest that dual investigations by the U.S. and Philippines are possible, involving witness interviews and evidence gathering. Thomas Sr. has expressed a willingness for the computers to be forensically examined to determine the origin of the alleged content, while his daughter Samantha has accused Thomas Jr. of fabricating lies for financial gain and suggested the computers may have been tampered with while out of their father's possession.
