Meghan Markle Cites Child Porn Allegations Against Father as Reason for Estrangement

Meghan Markle has revealed that allegations of child pornography against her father, Thomas Markle, were a primary reason for her decision to cease contact with him in 2018. The Duchess of Sussex shared in a statement to Page Six that she was informed of "troubling and disturbing" allegations concerning her estranged father, which she stated were being investigated by authorities at the time.

Markle explained that this information, received in the same year as her marriage to Prince Harry, fueled her decision to end her relationship with Thomas Markle and prevent him from seeing their two children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5. She expressed hope that the current revelations will lead to an understanding of her actions.

"I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them," Markle stated. "I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families."

Thomas Markle is reportedly under investigation for possessing alleged child sex abuse images. The "Suits" alum conveyed that while the extent of the uncovered material is "sickening," she hopes for justice and that the priority remains the safety and protection of children.

The report from The Sun, which broke the news of the investigation into Thomas Markle, detailed allegations of him being investigated over alleged child sex abuse images on Thursday.
