Meghan Markle and Malala Yousafzai Collaborate for International Day of the Girl

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai have announced a collaboration to mark the International Day of the Girl. The Duchess revealed that As Ever, her lifestyle brand, will donate 100 percent of the net proceeds from jam and tea sales made on Sunday to the Malala Fund. This initiative aims to support the fund's mission of ensuring every girl has access to free, safe, and quality education.

The partnership was announced via a joint statement on Instagram, accompanied by photos of the pair sharing afternoon tea at Claridge's in London. Their statement read: "When we support the girls of today, we empower the women of tomorrow. Access to education is the key to unlocking this."

This meeting marks a significant collaboration between the two influential figures, who first connected in October 2020 for a virtual discussion on girls' education. During that event, they spoke about the barriers girls face in accessing education globally. Meghan emphasized the importance of education for societal advancement, stating, "When young girls have access to education, everyone wins, and everyone succeeds." Malala echoed this sentiment, noting their shared belief that educated girls lead to broader societal benefits.

The Malala Fund, founded in 2013, actively works in regions where girls encounter significant educational obstacles, including Afghanistan, Brazil, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Tanzania. The fund's goal is to provide 12 years of free, safe, and quality education to girls worldwide.

Meghan's public appearance at Claridge's is reportedly her first in central London since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. She was seen wearing a camel Tove Studio coat, Ralph Lauren trousers, and a cashmere sweater. She also carried a Chanel handbag and wore Saint Laurent loafers. Her ensemble, including jewelry, was valued at over £28,000.

The meeting between Meghan and Malala took place amidst the ongoing discussions regarding security arrangements for Prince Harry and Meghan in Britain. The couple is seeking taxpayer-funded police protection, and a committee overseeing royal and VIP security is reconsidering their security level, particularly as they are now full-time residents in the UK with their children. Police vehicles were observed outside Claridge's during their meet-up, indicating a security presence.
