Meghan and Harry Undertake Joint Engagements in Nottingham
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex participated in several charity events, marking their first joint public appearance in the UK since relocating.
Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made their first joint public appearance in the United Kingdom since their move, engaging in three quasi-royal events in Nottingham.
The couple visited the East Midlands city on Thursday, revisiting a location where they made their first royal walkabout together in 2017. The engagements focused on local charities.
One of the visits was to the Community Recording Studio, where Meghan participated in an acting workshop. They also visited the Himmah food bank, which is associated with the Hubb Community Kitchen, a project that began in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017. The Hubb project holds significance for Meghan, who wrote the foreword for its 2018 cookbook, "Together." The couple also visited Epic Partners, an organization providing sports mentoring for young people.
Meghan has expressed that her public appearances will be infrequent, viewing herself primarily as a "full-time mum and entrepreneur" rather than a working royal. Her current focus includes potential business ventures, such as launching her brand "As Ever" in the UK by the end of the year, and possibly returning to acting. "They have different professional priorities," a source told The Telegraph, indicating Prince Harry's focus on philanthropic work and public service, while Meghan prioritizes her family, business, and acting career.
In recent weeks, Meghan has been active in other ventures, including launching a new advent calendar and a collaboration with Malala Yousafzai. She announced a donation of proceeds from her "As Ever" jam and tea sales to the Malala Fund for International Day of the Girl. Reports suggest the donation might be less than the cost of the attire she wore when meeting Yousafzai.
Despite these UK engagements, the Sussexes have not yet met King Charles and remain estranged from the Prince and Princess of Wales. Sources suggest they anticipate not being invited to spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham and plan to spend the festive period with Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, either in the UK or at their home in California.
Prince Harry is understood to remain in contact with his father via phone, and King Charles is currently at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Harry and his brother, the Prince of Wales, have not spoken since 2022.
