Megan Hilty, a Tony-nominated actress, recently lent her voice to the latest special in the "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+" series, titled "Mickey's Country Farm." In the special, Hilty voices Lasso Lucy, a cowgirl idol to Daisy Duck. Recording the role proved to be a more emotional experience than Hilty anticipated.
"I don’t know what I expected, but when I went in to record my vocals, I put on my headphones and everybody else had already recorded their parts," Hilty told Decider. "So all of my heroes, like Mickey and Minnie and Daisy, were all in my ears. I started crying immediately because I’ve loved them my entire life and this specific show I raised my kids on."
"Hoedown Throwdown" Connection
Following Lasso Lucy's arrival at Mickey's Farm, she leads the characters in a new rendition of the "Hoedown Throwdown," a song popularized by Miley Cyrus in the 2009 film "Hannah Montana: The Movie." While Hilty admitted she was not familiar with the song prior to taking on the role, she revealed herself to be a "huge" fan of Cyrus.
"So now I am very, very aware of the ‘Hoedown Throwdown’ and how famous it is. And so basically, me and Miley are like the same," Hilty quipped. "Now that we’ve done the same song? Yeah."
Hilty also discussed her past Disney roles, including K.C. the Koala in "T.O.T.S.," and the impact of the show's songs on children. She shared an anecdote about a child who began speaking after listening to the songs from "T.O.T.S."
Live Performances and Future Projects
The actress also touched upon her recent performance at the Tony Awards for "Death Becomes Her," describing the experience as "wild" due to the condensed version of the song and the altered stage setup. She expressed interest in adapting "Death Becomes Her" into a Broadway musical, noting its high stakes and suitability for song.
Hilty reflected on her role as Ivy Lynn in the TV series "Smash," contemplating a potential sequel set 15 years later, with Ivy potentially having a child. She also mentioned upcoming concerts, including Christmas performances and symphony concerts with her band, and a special concert version of a show she is excited about.
