Megadonor Questions Kamala Harris's 2028 Presidential Prospects

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, a major Democratic donor, has cast doubt on the viability of Vice President Kamala Harris mounting another presidential bid in 2028. Speaking at Politico's Decoded Summit in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Hoffman responded with an "awkward chuckle" when asked about Harris's prospects for a future run.

"I think it would be a very challenging path for her and it’s going to be a very noisy field," Hoffman stated, according to Politico. Hoffman previously contributed $17 million to Harris's 2024 presidential campaign.

Harris has not yet announced whether she intends to run for president in 2028. Speculation about her political future has been amplified by recent comments from California Governor Gavin Newsom, who told CNN he would not run for president if Harris decided to pursue the office, calling such a scenario "mutually assured destruction."

Sources close to Harris's political operations suggest that while the presidential primary calendar might favor her, donor support remains a question mark. "Political circles are talking about how the presidential primary calendar is in her favor," one source told The Post, referencing states like South Carolina and Nevada. "Whether or not donors would support her running again, though? Those are all factors to consider."

Early polling indicates Harris leading in many Democratic primary surveys. However, other potential candidates, including U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senator Jon Ossoff, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, have seen increased traction in prediction markets.

Hoffman also commented on Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, describing her as "much more pragmatic" than many perceive. He indicated that his support for her would depend on the specific field of candidates.

Governor Newsom has stated he will reveal his presidential aspirations after the upcoming midterm elections.
