A Mega Millions jackpot of $800 million, the largest prize awarded by the lottery game this year, was won by a ticket holder in Florida on Tuesday night. The winning numbers drawn were 34, 48, 49, 59, 70, and the gold Mega Ball was 12.
The winner, who has not been publicly identified, has the option to receive the full $800 million prize paid out over 30 years or opt for a one-time cash payment of $344.2 million before taxes. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are approximately 1 in 290,472,336.
This prize ranks as the tenth largest in Mega Millions history, surpassing the $656 million jackpot won by three individuals in March 2012. The largest Mega Millions prize to date remains $1.62 billion, awarded to a ticket purchased in Neptune Beach, Florida, in August 2023.
Tuesday's win marks the first time the Mega Millions jackpot has been claimed since March 17, when a $60 million prize was won in Van Wert, Ohio. The winner of that prize chose the cash sum option, receiving $27.1 million. A week prior to that drawing, an anonymous player in Illinois won $536 million, opting for a cash payout of $245.6 million.
