Meg Mathews Reveals Secret Battle With Breast Cancer

Meg Mathews, 60, has disclosed her secret battle with breast cancer, revealing that she underwent a double mastectomy. The businesswoman, formerly married to Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher, shared her health journey for the first time after being diagnosed in November 2024.

Mathews' diagnosis came after a routine mammogram identified three "pea-sized lumps" under her left breast. She was informed she had HER2-negative breast cancer. Initially surprised by the diagnosis, as she "felt great" and experienced no other symptoms, Mathews found the lumps were located at the back of her breast, near the milk glands, making them difficult to detect.

Reflecting on the moment of her diagnosis, Mathews told The Sun, "I didn’t feel scared when I got the diagnosis. I just thought: 'I can't break down and think: poor me.' I’m strong, I’m going to get through it."

Doctors discussed chemotherapy or radiotherapy as potential treatment paths, but Mathews opted against them. Instead, she chose to have a double mastectomy in March 2025, a procedure that also included the removal of her lymph nodes. She did not opt for reconstruction surgery at that time.

Eleven days after the surgery, pathology reports indicated she was cancer-free, negating the need for chemotherapy. Mathews described the decision to have a double mastectomy as "easy," stating she did not struggle with the loss of her breasts. She noted she had undergone numerous breast augmentation surgeries since the age of 30, including one from Noel Gallagher as a 30th birthday gift.

Mathews also mentioned that she had her implants removed around age 50 due to a high risk of rupture, significant scar tissue, and loss of sensation.

This health scare has provided Mathews with a renewed perspective on life, which she attributes partly to her "colourful" past during the 1990s Britpop era. She has since planned for reconstructive surgery.

Mathews and Noel Gallagher were a prominent couple in the 1990s, known for their high-profile lifestyle. Their marriage, which included a Las Vegas wedding in 1997, ended in divorce less than four years later.

In contrast to her past, Mathews' daughter, Anais, 26, leads a more conventional life. Mathews expressed pride in Anais's independence and her pursuit of a career in photography and influencing, noting that her daughter has benefited from therapy and art education. Anais has spoken about the challenges of growing up with famous parents and the nepotism that comes with her surname, while also acknowledging her parents' support.
