Media attention surrounding White House aide Natalie Harp has drawn criticism, with some outlets being accused of sensationalizing her presence in professional settings. The scrutiny intensified after Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., mentioned Harp in a campaign speech.
CNN White House reporter Alejandra Jaramillo recently posted a photo on social media of Harp in the back of the Oval Office, accompanying the image with the text, "Spotted… in the back of the Oval Office." This post led to widespread mockery from critics who pointed out that Harp was performing her duties as a White House staffer. One online user quipped, "Democrat shocked that an employee actually shows up for work."
Tim Young, a media fellow at the Heritage Foundation, commented on the media's focus, suggesting that outlets are attempting to create a narrative of impropriety. "First of all, they’re showing a White House staffer who is staffing the White House, but ultimately, they are trying to make this false story of Natalie Harp having some illicit affair with Trump come true -- and pretend that Harp would be so embarrassed by it that she would actually ‘still show her face’ in the Oval Office," Young told Fox News Digital. "They’ll deny that that’s their intended goal, but ultimately that’s what they were doing."
The controversy initially began when Ossoff appeared to allude to an inappropriate relationship between Harp and former President Donald Trump, though the senator has since sought to distance himself from such implications. CNN and MS NOW have reportedly mentioned Harp hundreds of times since Ossoff's initial remarks.
When contacted for comment, the White House referred Fox News Digital to an X post from White House communications director Steven Cheung. The post highlighted that Jaramillo had publicly criticized Trump in 2016. CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
