Medevac Helicopter Crash Near Catalina Island Kills Two, Injures Two

A medical helicopter crash near Catalina Island on September 30 resulted in two fatalities, two injuries, and one person unaccounted for. The victim who was missing has been identified as 45-year-old Catalina Hernandez of Avalon.

Hernandez was a passenger on a REACH Air Medical Services helicopter when it crashed shortly after 7:50 p.m. near Pebbly Beach, approximately one mile from Avalon. According to her family, she was being airlifted for treatment of an allergic reaction caused by something she had eaten. Her son was also aboard the helicopter and sustained injuries in the crash. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The helicopter had five people on board when the incident occurred. Authorities confirmed that two individuals died in the crash and two others were injured. The cause of the helicopter crash remains under investigation.
