McFly members Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones have reportedly quit their roles as judges on "The Voice UK," a decision that comes as the show's host, Emma Willis, prepares to host "Strictly Come Dancing." The reports suggest that ITV bosses were keen to retain the musical duo for the 15th series, but their commitments have made a return impossible.
According to sources, Fletcher is extensively involved with "Paddington: The Musical" in New York and is also working with Jones on the eighth McFly album. These ongoing projects are cited as the reason for their inability to commit to "The Voice UK."
The 14th series of "The Voice UK" has already experienced delays, with filming for the audition rounds taking place in 2024. A potential airing conflict was also noted, as Willis's new role hosting "Strictly Come Dancing" could lead to her appearing on rival networks simultaneously. Willis is set to take over "Strictly" hosting duties following the departure of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
Fletcher and Jones joined fellow judges will.i.am, Kelly Rowland, and Tom Jones on the panel. Last season, Fletcher and Jones guided their contestant, Ava Manning, to victory, earning her a record deal, prize money, and a vacation.
In related ITV programming news, "Celebrity Big Brother" is reportedly being axed. The reality show, which had been slated for a potential return in 2027, is now said to be shelved entirely. Insiders suggest that securing high-profile celebrities has become increasingly difficult, with many opting for "The Celebrity Traitors" instead. This trend is reportedly impacting other major shows like "Strictly Come Dancing" and "I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!" by affecting the pool of available contestants.
However, an ITV spokesperson stated that "Big Brother" is returning to ITVX and ITV2 later this year, and no definitive decisions have been made regarding 2027 programming. Filming for "The Voice UK" is expected to resume this autumn, though the status of Emma Willis's hosting role remains unconfirmed.
