McDonald's is launching a new Happy Meal promotion that partners its iconic toys with Sanrio's Hello Kitty and the legendary monster Godzilla. The "Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla" Happy Meal became available at participating U.S. restaurants on August 18 for a limited time.

Each meal includes one of eight exclusive collectible toys. The promotion reimagines various Sanrio characters in the roles of Godzilla's most famous adversaries. Hello Kitty is depicted as Godzilla, the King of the Monsters, while Chococat takes on the form of SpaceGodzilla. Kuromi is transformed into Mechagodzilla, and Keroppi becomes King Ghidorah.

Other character transformations include Badtz-Maru as Rodan, My Melody as Mothra, Cinnamoroll as Destoroyah, and Pompompurin as Gigan. Customers can choose between a hamburger or McNuggets with their meal.

The collaboration has already generated significant fan interest, with discussions on social media platforms about collecting all the toys. Some fans expressed determination to visit multiple locations to find specific characters, and others noted a desire to collect the toys despite having missed out on previous Hello Kitty promotions.

Fans outside the U.S. have noted that the promotion is currently exclusive to the American market, leading to disappointment in other regions.

This is not the first time McDonald's has collaborated with Sanrio's Hello Kitty. In 2024, a promotion featured Sanrio characters as monsters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, with Hello Kitty as Dark Magician and Cinnamoroll as Blue-Eyes White Dragon. That promotion was eventually rolled out in 55 countries. More recently, a collaboration paired Hello Kitty and Friends with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, dressing characters as the iconic turtles. This particular promotion was previously offered in markets including the UK.
