McDonald’s Monopoly Promotion Returns With $1 Million Grand Prize

McDonald’s has revived its iconic Monopoly promotion, allowing customers to win a $1 million grand prize along with a variety of other rewards. The sweepstakes feature traditional peel-off stickers, reminiscent of the game’s 1987 debut, affixed to food wrappers, cups, and boxes.

Participants can find Monopoly stickers on select McDonald’s items. Some stickers offer immediate prizes such as free drinks or fries, while others are part of a collection challenge for larger rewards. To participate, customers must download the McDonald’s app, scan the collected stickers, and redeem their prizes.

Beyond instant food wins, the promotion includes prizes such as gift cards to retailers like Ulta Beauty and Grubhub. There are also opportunities to win cash payouts of up to $50,000, intended for purposes like mortgage down-payments or college expenses. Other notable prizes include a Polaris vehicle, a trip to Kennedy Space Center, a Carnival cruise, and a 2027 Jeep Cherokee.

This iteration of the Monopoly game brings to mind the promotion’s controversial past. Between 1989 and 2001, a criminal conspiracy led by Jerry Jacobson, then a security auditor for Simon Worldwide, defrauded McDonald’s of $24 million. Jacobson illicitly distributed high-value game pieces to associates, who then posed as legitimate winners, with Jacobson taking a share of their winnings. This scheme was notably documented in the HBO series “McMillion$.” Following the scandal, McDonald’s significantly revamped its security protocols, implementing digital tracking and ensuring no single employee has sole access to high-value prizes.

The game pieces will be available until November 1, with a deadline of November 8 for collecting special “Chance Cards.” All winnings must be claimed by November 22. McDonald’s has noted that the majority of prizes will be food items.
