Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been discharged from the hospital and has returned to his home in Washington, D.C., following an incident in mid-June that led to his hospitalization. McConnell, who was found "unconscious" and taken to the hospital via ambulance in June, has spent nearly two months in medical care, including a period at a rehabilitation center.
"On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business," McConnell said in a statement. He added that he and his wife, Elaine Chao, are grateful for the "well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I’ve received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff."
McConnell, the former Senate majority leader, has not yet returned to the Senate. He will continue his recovery and engage with Senate business remotely from his home. The senator's office has not provided a specific timeline for his return to Capitol Hill.
