Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is out of the hospital as he continues to recover from a fall he sustained in June, but he has not yet been medically cleared to return to the Senate. His office provided an update Monday on the status of the longtime GOP leader, who has been absent from the chamber for more than a month.
The Office of the Attending Physician stated that McConnell "continues his recovery from a fall at home in June." Physicians are visiting the senator daily and overseeing his rehabilitation, which includes multiple daily physical therapy sessions aimed at rebuilding strength and reducing the risk of future falls.
According to the statement, McConnell's "bout with childhood polio continues to be a significant factor in his mobility." He remains in a rehabilitation facility and is not yet cleared to leave.
McConnell's absence has raised questions among colleagues about his eventual return and the impact on Senate business. However, some senators have urged for privacy and discouraged speculation regarding his health.
