Maye's Struggles Continue as Patriots Fall to Jaguars
Quarterback Drake Maye fumbles, throws interceptions, and is benched in a 35-6 loss.
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's difficult 2026 season continued Sunday with a turnover-filled performance in a 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Maye threw for 199 yards and committed three turnovers, including a fumble that he attributed in part to blood on the football from center Jared Wilson. "You can say that, but at the same time, I've got to hold onto the football," Maye said when asked about the impact of the blood on the fumble. He fumbled again later in the game but recovered it.
The quarterback also threw two interceptions, bringing his season total to a league-leading six. One interception came in the second quarter when a pass intended for receiver Kyle Williams was picked off by Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones. The other was thrown into the hands of Jacksonville's Travis Hunter near the end zone in the first half.
Following the performance, Maye was benched for backup quarterback Tommy DeVito. On the season, Maye has one passing touchdown to go with his six interceptions and two fumbles (one lost).
The Patriots' loss drops their record to 1-2 on the season. Their next game is against the Buffalo Bills.
