Maye Leads Patriots Over Jets in Defensive Struggle
Rookie quarterback throws for three touchdowns as New England secures a narrow victory.
Rookie quarterback Drake Maye guided the New England Patriots to a 26-19 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, throwing for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Despite facing a strong defensive effort from the Jets, Maye avoided turnovers and found key plays to secure the win.
Maye completed 18 of 32 passes, with his performance potentially impacted by three dropped passes from A.J. Brown, who was recently returned from an ankle injury. The Patriots' offensive line also managed to keep Maye clean, allowing no sacks against the Jets' pass rush, even with multiple offensive linemen sustaining injuries during the game.
Adding to New England's success was third-string running back Corey Kiner. Kiner contributed with solid special teams returns and a critical series of runs on the Patriots' final scoring drive, gaining 30 yards on six consecutive carries.
The Jets' offensive struggles were highlighted by their road record, having now lost three of their last four away games. Their next two scheduled contests are set to be played at MetLife Stadium.
Despite the loss, Jets coach Aaron Glenn acknowledged the team's effort. "I don’t think anybody feels good about 2-4, but I do feel good about the effort we’re playing with. ... No doubt about it, being 2-4 does not feel good, but there’s some things I know we can build on," Glenn stated.
