Maya Jama's Feathered Coat Sparks Social Media Buzz During 'Celebrity Traitors'
Viewers compare the host's striking attire to the Honey Monster and other characters while journalist Amol Rajan is the first to be eliminated.
Maya Jama, host of the BBC's "Celebrity Traitors," drew significant attention and humorous comparisons on social media for her bold fashion choice during the second episode of the show. As the contestants gathered for breakfast, Jama appeared in a voluminous mustard-colored feathered coat with wide shoulders, which quickly prompted viewers to liken her to the Honey Monster, the mascot for Sugar Puffs cereal.
Comparisons on the social media platform X also included Big Bird from "Sesame Street," The Lorax, and Bungle the bear from the children's show "Rainbow." Posts from viewers included "Traitor OR HONEY MONSTER," "Nice Honey Monster jacket Maya," and "Has Maya Jama skinned the Lorax???"
The second episode of "Celebrity Traitors" saw journalist Amol Rajan become the first player eliminated from the competition. Rajan was "murdered" by fellow Traitors Richard E. Grant and Maya Jama, following a cliffhanger from the previous night's premiere. Viewers had been left in suspense for 24 hours to see whether Rajan or podcaster James Acaster would be recruited as the third Traitor. Ultimately, Rajan was unsuccessful in his bid to join the Traitors.
Host Claudia Winkleman announced Rajan's elimination, and he later reflected on his early departure, stating, "It is gutting to be the first out, but James is a fantastic player, and people aren't going to suspect him, and they might suspect me. Maybe I was a little bit foolish with Richard, but then again, I ended up in the chapel with a nearly 50/50 chance to join their club. But do you know what? Games are games. Just like there are winners, there has to be losers. I've loved the ride."
Meanwhile, Richard E. Grant made an early and significant misstep in the game by admitting he was a Traitor when questioned by contestant Joe Lycett. Lycett expressed surprise at the direct confession, remarking, "I think you've just done something that has never happened in the game... bold strategy." This revelation has placed Grant under immediate scrutiny from the other contestants, while James Acaster, who had been suspected by some, is now positioned to work alongside the Traitors.
The second series launch episode of "The Traitors UK" achieved a record-breaking viewership of 9 million viewers on Thursday, marking the highest premiere ratings for the show. Overnight figures indicated a peak of just over 9 million viewers and an average of 8.9 million, an increase of nearly three million from the first celebrity series and 2.5 million from the fourth series of "The Traitors UK" in January.
