Maxx Crosby Urges Raiders to Avoid Complacency Despite 3-0 Start

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby is cautioning his team against overconfidence, even as they boast a perfect 3-0 record. With an upcoming matchup against the also undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, Crosby stressed the importance of staying grounded and continuing the team's work.

"It's good and bad, you know, I feel like it's so early," Crosby said, referring to the team's strong start. He expressed concern that success could lead to a premature sense of accomplishment, hindering further progress.

"You don’t want to take the cheese and fall into the trap, ‘Oh, my God, we made it. We figured it out. We’re here now,'" Crosby warned. He highlighted that a promising start does not guarantee sustained success.

The Raiders have secured victories in various ways, including overcoming an 11-point deficit in their recent game against the New Orleans Saints. These wins have contributed to establishing an identity under coach Klint Kubiak. However, Crosby pointed out that building an identity and maintaining it are distinct challenges.

"You have to be focused on what the mission is," Crosby stated. "And I’ve said it, multiple times, but you don’t make the playoffs at three wins."

Crosby, who has experienced periods of disappointment with the Raiders, understands the desire for the franchise and its fans to see tangible proof of improvement. While the undefeated start offers some evidence, he urged the team to resist the urge to look too far ahead.

He believes the best way to give the start lasting meaning is to continue the practices that led to it: preparation, accountability, and addressing mistakes even after a win. Crosby noted that issues such as a struggling run game, red-zone inefficiencies, and defensive challenges against the Saints’ quarterback, Tyler Shough, were overcome through a late surge of turnovers and scoring.

"That says something important about their ability to respond," Crosby said of the comeback. "It also leaves them with a legitimate question: How much better could they be if they stopped creating trouble for themselves?"

Crosby’s message is for the team to appreciate their progress while using the lessons learned from their victories to drive improvement. The upcoming game against the Chiefs presents a significant test of this approach.

"We have a lot of work to do," Crosby said. "We have a huge divisional opponent, Kansas City Chiefs. We know how important this is and how big of a challenge it is."

He emphasized that the team's focus must remain on daily execution and attention to detail. "You can’t focus on the past. We just got to focus on the day to day and dominate the details."
