Matthew Stafford Explains Taylor Swift Cameo Was for His Daughters
The Rams quarterback revealed his daughters' excitement was the primary motivation for his appearance in Swift's 'Patient Zero' music video.
Matthew Stafford, Super Bowl champion and reigning NFL MVP, has found a new type of acclaim, this time within his own household, thanks to an appearance in Taylor Swift's latest music video. Stafford spoke Wednesday about his cameo in Swift's "Patient Zero" video, alongside his wife Kelly Stafford, stating that the decision to participate was driven by a desire to create a memorable experience for his four daughters.
"They were right there with me," Stafford said. "That’s one of the main reasons that I ended up going to do that. She wanted to offer an experience for our family and our kids to see that. I’m obviously really grateful and excited to be in it."
The Staffords filmed their part during the offseason, though the quarterback could not recall the specific month. He described the experience of being on set and observing Swift's creative process, from directing and producing to editing in real-time, as impressive.
"Just to watch her do her thing is pretty impressive," Stafford said. "From borderline directing, producing, writing, all of it, editing live as we were doing it. It was really cool to be a part of it."
The music video, which debuted over the weekend, features the Staffords at a formal event. Stafford, known for his athletic prowess rather than acting, humorously acknowledged his limitations.
"I’ve never been a part of it before," he said. "I probably won’t ever be again based on my acting chops."
However, the experience has already yielded significant results with his daughters, who have the song on repeat during car rides, including their trips to soccer practice. Stafford shared his daughters' enthusiasm for "Patient Zero," noting their enjoyment of all of Swift's music.
"My girls, as they do with all her songs, love that song," Stafford said. "I was actually driving them to soccer yesterday and they were asking me to play it in the car, so we had it on repeat."
