Matthew Perry's Friends Cast Opts Out of New Netflix Documentary

The main cast of the beloved sitcom "Friends" has chosen not to participate in a forthcoming Netflix documentary focusing on the life and death of Matthew Perry.

Sources close to the production indicate that the "Friends" stars, who shared a deep bond with Perry, were asked if they wished to be involved in "The One About Matthew Perry." However, they collectively decided against it.

Mary Robertson, who directed the documentary, stated that the cast members expressed their support for the project but opted not to appear.

Perry, who played Chandler Bing, died in October 2023 at the age of 54. His death sent shockwaves through Hollywood and among his devoted fanbase.

Mia Perry Bowick, Perry's younger sister, recalled the intimate nature of his funeral, which was attended by close family and friends. She noted that the "Friends" cast members arrived together, demonstrating their enduring solidarity with their co-star. "They walked in together, and they sat together, and they left together," Mia said.

During his life, Perry openly discussed his struggles with addiction to substances including alcohol and opioids. He had been candid about his efforts to achieve sobriety, with his sister Mia recalling his battle as cyclical, stating he often fell short of a full year of abstinence.

Perry's portrayal of the neurotic and lovable Chandler Bing was a cornerstone of "Friends," which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. The show's cast formed a close-knit relationship, which they often referred to as a family. This bond was evident in their appearances together, including "Friends: The Reunion" in 2021, where they shared memories and reaffirmed their connection.

Despite their decision not to participate in the documentary, the cast members have been deeply affected by Perry's passing. Reports from his funeral described them as visibly distraught.

The documentary is expected to delve into the complexities of Perry's life, including his public career and private battles, and the profound impact he had on his "Friends" family.
