Actress René Ashton, an ex-girlfriend of the late Matthew Perry, has revealed that she and the "Friends" star joined the "mile-high club" during a flight on Bruce Willis' private plane. Ashton shared the anecdote in the new three-part Netflix documentary, "The One About Matthew Perry."

According to Ashton, the trip occurred before the filming of the movie "The Whole Nine Yards," which starred both Perry and Willis. Willis had invited Perry and Ashton to travel with him and his then-girlfriend to Turks and Caicos.

"He’s like, ‘Bruce wants us to go on his private plane. Bruce wants me to share a plane with him,'" Ashton recalled in the documentary. When asked by an off-screen producer about the flight, Ashton responded, "I joined a club."

Ashton described the trip as "pretty amazing," noting the absence of paparazzi and characterizing it as a "nice, normal and fun trip." She also expressed that she was "in love" with Perry at the time, describing him as "at the core, good people."

Ashton and Perry dated for approximately one year in 1999. During their relationship, Ashton reportedly became concerned about Perry's escalating struggles with alcohol and even contacted his father, John Bennett Perry, for assistance. The couple ended their relationship in December 1999.

Matthew Perry was found deceased in his Los Angeles home in October 2023 at the age of 54. The official cause of death was attributed to the "acute effects of ketamine," with contributing factors including drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, according to the coroner's report.
