Matthew McConaughey marked his eldest son Levi's 18th birthday with a heartfelt tribute and some straightforward advice. The actor, 56, posted a photo of himself and Levi, both wearing light blue dress shirts and jeans, with their arms around each other and making the 'rock on' hand gesture.

"18. That’s a # buddy. Enjoy and handle your new freedoms. @levimcconaughey," McConaughey captioned the image, addressing his son directly.

Levi McConaughey is following in his father's footsteps as an aspiring actor. He made his acting debut in last year's film The Lost Bus and is set to appear in the upcoming drama Way of the Warrior Kid. His parents, McConaughey and Camila Alves, 43, have been married for 14 years and welcomed Levi in 2008.

The couple also have two younger children: 16-year-old Vida and 13-year-old Livingston.

Three years prior, on Levi's 15th birthday in July 2023, he was gifted access to social media. At the time, his mother Camila expressed nervousness about the decision, while Matthew conveyed confidence in his son's maturity. "He knows who he is, and he knows where he’s going. I think he can handle it. He’s got a great story to tell and share," McConaughey had said in a video message.

He also addressed Levi's future followers, stating, "I want y’all to know, you’re getting a very cool and respectful young man in Levi McConaughey, and I hope y’all can do your best to treat him the same way."

Levi responded to his parents' social media post with gratitude, writing, "Mamma and Papai thank you!" He subsequently shared a montage on his own feed showcasing his interests, including surfing, cliff diving, skiing, and spending time with friends and family, captioned with "happy to be here."
