Matthew McConaughey marked his eldest son Levi’s 18th birthday on Tuesday with a public tribute that included candid advice for his newly adult son. The actor, 56, shared a photo of himself and Levi, who is pursuing an acting career, on social media.
"18. That’s a # buddy. Enjoy and handle your new freedoms. @levimcconaughey," McConaughey wrote in the caption.
Levi McConaughey, born in 2008, is the eldest of McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves’ three children. The couple also have a 16-year-old daughter, Vida, and a 13-year-old son, Livingston. Levi has already begun his acting journey, making his debut alongside his father in the film "The Lost Bus" and is slated to appear in the upcoming drama "Way of the Warrior Kid."
In 2023, McConaughey and Alves marked Levi’s 15th birthday by allowing him to join social media. At the time, Alves admitted she felt nervous about the decision, while McConaughey expressed confidence in his son’s maturity.
"He knows who he is, and he knows where he’s going. I think he can handle it. He’s got a great story to tell and share," McConaughey said at the time, addressing Levi’s future social media presence.
He also offered a message to Levi’s future followers, stating, "I want y’all to know, you’re getting a very cool and respectful young man in Levi McConaughey, and I hope y’all can do your best to treat him the same way."
Levi responded to his parents’ announcement at the time by thanking them and later shared a video montage of his interests, including surfing, cliff diving, skiing, and spending time with friends and family, captioned "happy to be here."
