Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson Reunite for Apple TV+ Comedy 'Brothers'
The actors play fictionalized versions of themselves in a series inspired by a potential familial connection.
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are set to star as themselves in the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series "Brothers," which premieres on September 23. The series follows the two actors whose lifelong friendship is tested when they uncover a decades-old secret suggesting they might be brothers.
The premise draws from a real-life possibility: McConaughey's mother, Kay, once admitted to being "more than friends" with Harrelson's late father, Charles Harrelson. This revelation has fueled speculation that the two actors could be half-brothers.
The series synopsis states that what begins as a getaway on McConaughey's Texas ranch quickly escalates when his mother reveals the secret. As Harrelson investigates the truth, McConaughey finds himself dealing with an identity crisis, including a potential run for Governor of Texas.
"Brothers" will debut with two episodes on September 23. New episodes are expected to be available for streaming as early as 9:00 p.m. ET on Tuesdays, the night before the official premiere date.
Viewers can watch "Brothers" on Apple TV+. The service offers a seven-day free trial, allowing access to the series before a monthly subscription fee of $12.99 applies. Apple TV+ content can also be accessed through Amazon Prime Video by subscribing to Apple TV+ via the Prime Video app, which also includes a seven-day trial.
The cast of "Brothers" includes Holland Taylor as Ma Mac, Natalie Martinez as Valentina McConaughey, and Brittany Ishibashi as Joy Harrelson, among others.
The series is scheduled to release eight episodes. The first two episodes, "On the Road" and "The Hunt," will be available on September 23. Subsequent episodes will follow weekly.
McConaughey and Harrelson previously starred together in the first season of HBO's "True Detective," which premiered in 2014.
