Matisse Thybulle Adopts Dalton Knecht's Former Lakers Number
Thybulle switches to No. 4 for the upcoming season opener following Knecht's release.
Matisse Thybulle will wear No. 4 for the Los Angeles Lakers in their season opener against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, a jersey number previously associated with recently released player Dalton Knecht.
Thybulle, who initially joined the Lakers in the offseason wearing No. 26, explained his choice was a combination of past numbers he had worn. "That adds up to 26," he said. He wore No. 22 with the Philadelphia 76ers and No. 4 with the Portland Trail Blazers before last season.
The number 4 holds significant personal meaning for Thybulle. He wore it throughout his high school career at Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish, Washington, where his jersey was retired in 2015. He continued to wear No. 4 for all four years of his college career at the University of Washington. According to his college player profile, four has been his favorite number since he was in the fourth grade, and it also aligns with his birthday, March 4th, and was his mother’s favorite number.
This will be the first time Thybulle wears No. 4 as a member of the Lakers. He is expected to see playing time in the secondary rotation due to injuries to Cameron Carr (right oblique strain) and Adou Thiero (left knee effusion).
During the preseason, Thybulle appeared in four games, scoring 20 points and averaging 20 minutes per contest.
