Mathematician Hannah Fry is drawing inspiration from historical codebreaker Alan Turing as she competes in the new series of "Celebrity Traitors." Fry, known for her work in mathematics and public communication, revealed she has analyzed data from previous seasons of the show to identify patterns in the behavior of the "Traitors."

"Have I gone back through the data of all the previous games and tried to find statistically significant patterns? Yes!" Fry stated ahead of the show's premiere. "There is a pattern in the way that Traitors behave."

She cited an example from a previous season, noting how a contestant named Cat Burns, identified as a traitor, would often vote for someone whom no one else had targeted. Fry believes this is a common tactic for traitors as they begin to establish themselves in the game. However, she acknowledged that the unpredictable nature of the "faithful" contestants often makes it difficult to discern clear signals from the noise.

Fry explained that she is employing a similar type of mathematical thinking to that famously used by Alan Turing to crack the Enigma code during World War II. "I am using the same bit of math that Alan Turing used to crack the Enigma machine," she said.

Despite her analytical approach, Fry admitted that her competitive nature could be her biggest challenge. "I would say I am toxically competitive. Yes, to a fault. I have to try and rein that in," she confessed.

She also expressed a preference for being a "faithful" contestant, believing it would allow her to enjoy the experience more authentically. "I think it would be really fun to be a traitor, like amazingly fun, but I want to enjoy this experience as much as I possibly can for however long it lasts, and I think that I'll enjoy it more if I get to be a truer, more honest version of myself," Fry said.

The new series of "Celebrity Traitors" premiered on October 1st, featuring a lineup of well-known personalities including Amol Rajan, Bella Ramsey, James Acaster, James Blunt, Jerry Hall, Joanne McNally, Joe Lycett, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Kenny Dalglish, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Maya Jama, Michael Sheen, Miranda Hart, Myha'la, Professor Hannah Fry, Richard E. Grant, Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft, and Sharon Rooney also join the cast.

These contestants will navigate a game of detection, trust, and betrayal, aiming to win up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice. The show is hosted by Claudia Winkleman and filmed in the Scottish Highlands.
