A significant fire ripped through the Manchester warehouse of fashion outlet Marc Darcy on Thursday, causing a portion of the building to collapse as firefighters worked to control the blaze. The upmarket designer, which has provided suits for Premier League footballers and has partnered with clubs like West Ham United and Leicester City, is temporarily unable to accept new orders.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service responded to a large fire at the commercial building on Hilton Street in Salford. Video footage captured by station commander Carl Haslam showed flames engulfing the structure before part of it crumbled to the ground. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Fire crews remained on scene Friday morning, with a section of Bury New Road closed to traffic. Residents in the vicinity were advised to keep windows and doors shut due to heavy smoke.
The Marc Darcy warehouse housed more than 100,000 pieces of stock. The family-run business, established in 1989 and owned by Chad Johal, has outfitted notable figures including Premier League player Jordan Pickford and Manchester United legend Denis Irwin. It was also reported that Harry Maguire wore a Marc Darcy suit for his wedding in 2022. "Made In Chelsea" stars Spencer Matthews and Hugo Taylor collaborated with the brand on a menswear collection.
A notice on the Marc Darcy website stated: "Due to a fire at our premises, we are temporarily unable to accept any new orders. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and will reopen ordering as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding."
