Massive $850 Million Sports Complex Opens in Southern California

Southern California is set to welcome a sprawling 190-acre sports complex, the Ontario Sports Empire, which officially opens its gates on Saturday. Touted as the largest youth sports destination west of the Rocky Mountains, the $850 million facility features over 40 athletic fields dedicated to sports including baseball, softball, soccer, football, and rugby.

The complex includes 20 multipurpose fields, 14 youth baseball diamonds, and eight full-size baseball and softball fields, complemented by two championship baseball diamonds and four football and rugby fields. Its opening coincides with the nearby $150 million, 6,500-seat stadium, home to the Ontario Tower Buzzers, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Single-A affiliate.

To accommodate visitors, the development features a six-level parking structure with 1,300 spaces and a large 152-by-51-foot jumbotron. The project was funded by the city of Ontario and is managed by Sports Facilities Companies. Officials anticipate the complex will attract traveling teams and families, thereby boosting local businesses.

"It is going to transform that region of the country. We circled the West Coast as almost a desert for sports facilities about 5-7 years ago," said Sports Facilities Companies CEO Jason Clement. City Manager Scott Ochoa highlighted the project as a long-term community investment, stating in 2025 that "the Ontario Sports Empire builds on that legacy with a modern venue and a complete sports complex — a place for families to gather, play, compete, and connect for decades to come."

The Ontario Sports Empire is located approximately 10 minutes from Ontario International Airport and is in proximity to over 6,000 hotel rooms. A 230-room dual-brand Marriott hotel is also slated to open next year, offering lodging within walking distance of the fields.

The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with dining options available throughout the complex.
