Massachusetts Teens Charged in McDonald's Attack

Four masked teenagers in Lynn, Massachusetts, have been arrested and charged in connection with a violent assault on a McDonald's employee. The incident, which occurred on September 18, was captured on video and shows the group jumping over the counter to attack the worker.

According to the Lynn Police Department, the four juveniles were identified and taken into custody on September 23. Each faces seven charges: assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, trespassing, affray, and civil rights violation with injury. The specific category of the civil rights violation has not yet been disclosed by authorities.

The viral video depicts the victim being punched and thrown to the ground by the masked assailants. A larger group of onlookers can be seen filming the incident and cheering, with some periodically getting involved. Police responded to the scene and dispersed the crowd. The injured employee reportedly declined medical attention.

Massachusetts law defines a hate crime as an act of intimidation, harassment, or harm motivated by a victim's identity, including race, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or gender. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify any other individuals involved in the incident.

The accused teenagers have been placed in juvenile detention pending their court appearances. Their identities are being withheld due to their underage status. Some parents in the community have expressed concern, noting that the group allegedly came from a nearby football game before descending on the McDonald's location on Boston Street. Mayor Jared Nicholson stated he is deeply concerned by the weekend's events involving young people in the community.
