Marblehead, Massachusetts is mourning the loss of Owen Coyne, a 17-year-old senior and football captain at Marblehead High School, who died unexpectedly from a sudden brain hemorrhage. His family confirmed the cause of death was not related to any impact.

Coyne, remembered for his kindness and positivity, was a standout athlete who also participated in baseball and track. He had committed to playing football at Williams College in the fall. His passing has led to the cancellation of the Marblehead Magicians' scheduled football game against Danvers.

“Owen was a wonderful, respectful son, a doting older brother to Grady, Landon and Ella, and a beloved grandson, cousin and nephew,” his mother, Angela Paradise, said in a statement to the Marblehead Current. “O’s kindness, positivity, warmth and humble nature left an indelible mark on everyone he met during his brief 17 years on earth.”

Paradise also shared that Coyne’s organs would be donated, saving the lives of five individuals. She expressed profound grief over his unfulfilled future, noting his hard work to earn his place at Williams College.

Superintendent John Robidoux offered condolences to the Coyne family and friends, stating that the school will provide counseling support for students and staff. “This is a sad day for our Marblehead community, and we ask that you send positive thoughts and prayers to the Coyne family and Owen’s friends during this difficult time,” Robidoux said.

Williams College head football coach Mark Raymond echoed the sentiment, calling Coyne “a truly special young man and an outstanding student-athlete” and stating that the college was “extremely excited” to have him join their team. He extended thoughts and prayers to Coyne’s family and friends.
