A Massachusetts mother accused of killing her two young children and then fleeing to Vermont has had her request for release denied by a judge. Janette MacAusland, 49, remains in custody without bail.

MacAusland's attorney, Joseph Krowski, argued in Dedham District Court on Thursday that there was not enough information to continue holding his client. Prosecutors stated that the medical examiner's office has yet to determine the official causes of death for the children, 7-year-old Kai and 6-year-old Ella. According to court records, MacAusland allegedly admitted to a family member that she killed her children and attempted suicide in May.

The judge rejected Krowski's plea to dismiss the case and ordered MacAusland to be held without bail on two counts of first-degree murder. Neither Krowski nor the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office immediately responded to requests for comment.
