Massachusetts High School Mourns Football Captain's Death at 17

Marblehead High School is mourning the loss of its football captain, Owen Coyne, who died at the age of 17 from a sudden brain hemorrhage not caused by impact. The senior, a standout athlete in football, baseball, and track, passed away on Friday, according to an announcement from the school.

Coyne had committed to play football for Williams College months prior to his death. His family, including parents Angela Paradise and Brian Coyne, and siblings Grady, Landon, and Ella, released a statement expressing their profound sadness.

"There are simply no words for the loss of a child, a brother, a captain, a teammate, a friend, and a young man who is so deeply loved by so many," the family said, as reported by the Marblehead Current. "Owen brought so much joy, laughter, and light into the lives of those who knew him, and the impact he made will remain with us forever."

Mazehead High School senior Owen Coyne has died from a 'sudden brain hemorrhage'.

Coyne was a wide receiver who also participated in the school's varsity baseball and track teams.

The 17-year-old's death occurred months after he committed to play football for Williams College.

The Marblehead Magicians' scheduled football game against Danvers on Saturday has been canceled in light of the tragedy. Coyne was a co-captain for the team and had received offers from several other schools before choosing Williams.

His mother, Angela Paradise, told the Marblehead Current that it was heartbreaking to know Owen would not pursue his college dreams after working so hard. "Owen, you were truly a gift — the BEST gift—to all of us. I am so grateful that I am your mom," she stated. Paradise added, "Words cannot convey how sorry (and gutted and angry and shattered and confused) I am that you were robbed of your beautiful life with us — and with SO much promise ahead."
