Karen Solomon, a fugitive wanted in connection with the death of her husband, a veteran police officer, was found dead on Monday, police said. Authorities believe her death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Solomon, 58, had been missing since her husband, Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon, was discovered dead in their Massachusetts home on Aug. 18. Police had previously stated she was presumed armed and dangerous.
A gun was found near her body, according to reports. Solomon had been the subject of an extensive manhunt after surveillance footage showed her leaving the crime scene. Police were initially dispatched to the couple's home on a medical emergency call, where they found Kurt Solomon deceased and his wife missing.
Kurt Solomon was a 31-year veteran of the Worcester Police Department. His wife was an author of two books, "Hearts Beneath the Badge" and "The Price They Pay," and founded the organization First H.E.L.P., which advocates for first responders. Police stated there was no prior history of domestic violence between the couple.
