Masked Men With Apparent Weapons Knock on Delaware Doors, Police Investigating
New Castle County Police are seeking information after security footage captured individuals approaching homes with what appeared to be firearms.
New Castle County, Delaware residents were unsettled Friday night when masked individuals, one carrying what appeared to be a rifle, were recorded knocking on doors. The New Castle County Police Department released images from home security cameras showing at least two individuals approaching residences.
One image depicts a person wearing a tactical-style vest and holding what police described as an apparent rifle while standing at a front door. Another image shows a second individual approaching a door, masked and wearing a black vest. Police were called to the 1200 block of Canvasback Drive in Mallard Pointe around 10:50 p.m. on Friday following a report of suspicious persons.
Residents reported that a man in a black, hockey-style mask and tactical vest knocked on doors before fleeing. Authorities also observed four other individuals in the area, with two on bicycles and two on foot, heading eastbound on Mallard Road.
Despite an extensive search of the neighborhood and surrounding properties by officers and a K-9 unit, the individuals were not located. Police stated that while they have not confirmed if the weapons were real firearms, they suspect they may have been airsoft-style guns.
