Newly released body camera footage captures the moment a woman, identified as Jasmin L. Cooper, 28, drove toward Maryland police officers, striking an officer and multiple vehicles before officers discharged their firearms.

The incident occurred on May 7 around 9 p.m. in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, after police responded to a report of a hit-and-run. Upon arrival, officers learned that a woman had crashed her vehicle into another car and then forcibly taken the vehicle belonging to a family member who had arrived at the scene.

Officers located Cooper inside the stolen vehicle a short time later. The body camera footage shows officers confronting Cooper, instructing her to "turn the car off" and "get out of the car." Despite commands, Cooper did not exit the vehicle. Instead, she drove the car toward the officers, hitting one officer, two patrol cars, and another vehicle. This action prompted officers to open fire, striking Cooper.

Additional responding officers observed Cooper turn onto Reece Road, where she crashed into another vehicle and attempted to break into a third occupied vehicle. She was apprehended by officers at this location.

The footage also shows officers attending to Cooper after her arrest, bandaging a wound she sustained from being shot. Both Cooper and the officer who was struck by the vehicle were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Cooper faces charges including carjacking, attempted carjacking, multiple counts of reckless endangerment, and first- and second-degree assault, among other related charges.
