Mary Cosby Returns to RHOSLC Filming Weeks After Son's Death
The reality star stated her son would have wanted her to continue.
Mary Cosby has resumed filming "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" just three weeks after the death of her son, Robert Cosby Jr. Cosby told Vulture producers offered her the option to take a year off from the show, but she chose to continue filming.
"[Robert Jr.] would want me to keep going. He would want me to shine. He’d want me to be the best I can be in whatever I’m doing in life," Cosby said.
Robert Jr., Cosby's son with her husband Robert Cosby Sr., died at age 23 on February 23. His death occurred less than three weeks after his release from jail, where he had been held for two months. A spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a call regarding an overdose, which subsequently turned into a death investigation.
Cosby, 53, expressed hope that viewers would witness her strength during Season 7 of "RHOSLC," which premiered Wednesday. "This could have killed me, and it should have killed me. It was designed to at least let me fall, and I didn’t," she stated. "I doubled down on knowing that what happens in my life is for the good and what’s going to happen is supposed to happen.
"You can’t do anything when it’s someone’s time but accept it and keep going and hope that one day, you’ll see [them] again."
Sources informed TMZ that Cosby had returned to filming with her castmates in March, a month after her son's passing. Filming for Season 7 was initially planned to commence the week of February 23 but was halted due to Robert Jr.'s death. The Hollywood Reporter later indicated that filming resumed in early March, with Cosby joining the cast later that month.
Co-star Meredith Marks commented on Cosby's return, stating that she navigated her comeback to the show after her son's death "so beautifully." Marks added, "You’ll see [that] her strength is so inspirational. I think it will be really incredible to watch."
In the days following her son's death, Cosby shared a tribute on Instagram, posting a photo of herself with Robert Jr. as a child. "Our beloved son, Robert Jr., has been called home to the Lord," she wrote. "Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow."
She later shared another tribute to Robert Jr. on Instagram, featuring a photo of herself with him as a young boy, set to Jessica Mauboy's song "Time After Time." The caption read, "#godfirst #love #forever #❤️ I’m going to miss you, bubs ❤️🙏😢."
