Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Rumors Emerge Amid Arizona Cardinals' Slow Start

Rumors are circulating around the league that the Arizona Cardinals might consider trading wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, following a slow start to the season. ESPN's Dan Graziano reported that teams are questioning whether a "change-of-scenery deal" could be in the works for the young receiver.

Harrison is eligible for an extension after the current season, and his performance thus far has reportedly made it difficult for the Cardinals to envision a long-term financial commitment. He has recorded just one catch through the first two games of the season. In the Cardinals' Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Harrison was targeted only once and did not make a reception, despite playing in 74 percent of the team's offensive snaps.

Harrison's current contract includes an $11.25 million cap hit for next season and a team option for 2028, which appears increasingly unlikely to be exercised given his on-field production. His quiet start follows a sophomore season in which he caught 41 passes for 608 yards over 12 games.

Adding to the situation, the Cardinals recently signed Michael Wilson, who had a strong finish to the previous season, to a three-year, $75 million extension. This commitment to Wilson could further impact Harrison's future role with the team.

Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur commented on Harrison's performance, stating that he does not believe it stems from a lack of effort. "I think his running style is different than some other people’s," LaFleur said. "It’s a long season — we’re two games in. There were some opportunities yesterday that I thought that either the defense dictated that it couldn’t go there or just self-inflicted wounds — it was kind of 50-50."
