The future of The Block's hosting has been a topic of discussion after judge Marty Fox indicated he would consider taking the helm of a potential celebrity version of the renovation series. This comes as current host Scott Cam has explicitly stated he would not participate in such a spin-off. Channel Nine has previously confirmed exploring the possibility of a shorter, international edition featuring well-known contestants.
Fox, founder of the luxury real estate agency Whitefox, addressed the speculation surrounding his potential involvement. "The Block is one of the biggest shows in the country, so when people mention your name in that conversation, of course it feels strange," Fox told realestate.com.au. He acknowledged the connection observers make between his background in real estate, renovation, and media, and the show's format. "Would I look at something like that if the right opportunity came up? I might," he stated.
Cam, the veteran presenter, has been clear about his stance. "I would not want to do a celebrity Block," he previously said. "Not on my watch. The next bloke might do it."
Despite his openness to a larger television role, Fox emphasized that his primary focus remains on expanding Whitefox. "The business is the main game," he said. "The media is powerful because it gives you reach, but reach only matters if there is substance behind it." Whitefox has reportedly achieved significant milestones, with over $2.5 billion in active and pipeline property listings across Australia, New Zealand, and the United Arab Emirates. The company has sold nearly $6 billion in property since its inception nine years ago and is aiming for global expansion with 50 offices in five countries by 2030, targeting ultra-luxury listings, including a Dubai Hills mansion valued around $120 million.
Fox also shared personal motivations behind his ambition, referencing a childhood without stable housing. He also noted the personal cost of his involvement with The Block, which requires him to be away from his family for three months each year during filming. "People see the opportunity, the exposure and the fun side of television, but the trade-off is time away from the ones you love," he said.
The upcoming season of The Block is set to return to Channel Nine and 9Now on Sunday, August 2, with Fox resuming his role as judge alongside Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer.
