Martin Lewis' Wife Lara Lewington Undergoes Hysterectomy for Rare Condition
Tech journalist Lara Lewington, wife of Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis, shared on Instagram that she has had a hysterectomy following a battle with adenomyosis.
Lara Lewington, wife of consumer finance expert Martin Lewis, has revealed she underwent a hysterectomy on Thursday after a prolonged struggle with adenomyosis, a rare condition affecting the womb.
Lewington, 47, who is a tech journalist and AI commentator, shared the news on Instagram with a photo from her hospital bed. "Ten days ago I had a hysterectomy after a rollercoaster with adenomyosis," she wrote. She described adenomyosis as the "lesser known sibling of endometriosis," noting that diagnosis for the condition typically takes an average of 9.4 years.
She added that her recovery is progressing well and that she is preparing to launch a new podcast next month, which she indicated is related to her recent health experience. Lewington plans to return to work on Tuesday.
A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the uterus, rendering pregnancy impossible. Adenomyosis occurs when the uterine lining grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. This condition, along with others such as fibroids, endometriosis, uterine cancer, or chronic uterine pain and bleeding, can lead to a doctor recommending a hysterectomy.
Lewington and Martin Lewis, 54, have been married since 2009 and have a 13-year-old daughter named Sapphire. Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert, sold his company to MoneySupermarket for £87 million.
Lewington has had a notable career in media. She began as a weather presenter for Channel Five News at age 23, later interviewing celebrities and reviewing gadgets. She has appeared on television programs such as This Morning, Lorraine, and BBC's Click, and has become a commentator on artificial intelligence. Her career also includes a cameo appearance in the 2006 film Superman Returns.
She has also been an advocate for the potential benefits of AI in healthcare, speaking on Davina McCall's Begin Again podcast last year. Despite her BBC show Click being axed in 2024 after more than two decades, Lewington has continued to pursue new ventures.
