Martin Freeman and Rachel Benaissa Make First Public Appearance Since Secret Wedding

Martin Freeman and his new wife Rachel Benaissa made their first public appearance together on Thursday night, stepping out after it was revealed they had secretly married earlier this year.

The couple attended the Derren Brown: Only Human gala performance at the Apollo Theatre in London. Freeman, 55, and Benaissa, 32, appeared affectionate as they posed for photographs.

Just last week, it was confirmed that the "Sherlock" star and the French actress had tied the knot. They debuted their wedding bands during a joint red carpet appearance at the premiere of Freeman's new film, "The Long Winter." A representative for Freeman confirmed the marriage, which follows their relationship that began in 2020.

Prior to his relationship with Benaissa, Freeman was with actress Amanda Abbington for 16 years. They separated in 2016 and share two children, daughter Grace, 21, and son Joe, 18.

Benaissa, who has appeared in the BBC's "Normal People" and Aisling Bea's sitcom "This Way Up," has reportedly formed a close bond with Freeman's children. A video shared by Grace Freeman on TikTok showed Benaissa dancing with Joe and family dachshunds.

Freeman previously spoke about his relationship with Benaissa on Jessie and Lennie Ware's "Table Manners" podcast, sharing that they enjoy cooking together. He also recounted a family outing to a "Sherlock"-themed escape room with his children and Benaissa.

Benaissa has also had roles in films such as Lindsay Lohan's Netflix movie "Irish Wish" and has appeared in commercials. She is also a screenwriter, currently working on a dark comedy-horror TV series titled "SELF CARE GIRLIE."
