Martin Freeman and Rachel Benaissa Make First Public Appearance as Married Couple
The "Sherlock" star, 55, and his wife, 32, attended a London gala performance, marking their first joint public outing since news of their secret wedding emerged.
Martin Freeman and his new wife, Rachel Benaissa, appeared together publicly on Thursday evening, their first joint appearance since news broke of their recent marriage. The couple attended the Derren Brown: Only Human gala performance at London's Apollo Theatre.
Freeman, 55, and Benaissa, 32, confirmed their wedding earlier this year, with the couple debuting their wedding bands last week at the premiere of Freeman's film, The Long Winter. A representative for the actor confirmed the marriage. The couple began dating in 2020.
Benaissa wore a colorful knitted jumper, while Freeman was seen in a grey jacket. Last week, Benaissa showcased her sparkling engagement ring alongside Freeman's gold wedding band.
Freeman, known for his role as John Watson in the BBC series "Sherlock," was previously in a long-term relationship with actress Amanda Abbington. They were together for 16 years before their split in 2016 and share two children, daughter Grace, 21, and son Joe, 18.
Benaissa, an actress and screenwriter, has appeared in the BBC series "Normal People" and "This Way Up." She also had a role in Lindsay Lohan's Netflix film "Irish Wish."
Freeman and Benaissa have reportedly been together for approximately six years. He previously shared insights into their relationship on the podcast "Table Manners," mentioning their shared enjoyment of cooking together. He also recounted taking his family, including his children, to a "Sherlock"-themed escape room. Benaissa has been described as having formed a close bond with Freeman's children, and a video shared by their daughter Grace showed Benaissa dancing with them.
Benaissa's professional background includes training at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin. She also writes screenplays and is developing a TV series titled "SELF CARE GIRLIE."
