Martial Arts Fighter Killed in Suspected Racist Attack Near Paris

A 26-year-old amateur mixed martial arts fighter, identified as Pengo Bossio Wangi, was killed in a shooting incident on Friday in the Paris suburbs. His martial arts club, Atch Academy in Aubervilliers, north of Paris, paid tribute to him on Instagram, remembering his positive attributes and stating that his death could not be justified.

French authorities have not publicly identified the victim. The incident, which occurred in Trappes and La Verrière, involved a gunman firing from a vehicle at multiple locations. At least five other individuals, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured.

President Emmanuel Macron described the attack as a "racist terror attack," suggesting the victims were targeted due to their skin color or perceived religion. A suspect was apprehended shortly after the shooting, and the case has been taken over by France’s National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s office.
