Martha Stewart, 85, Reveals Recent Secret Hip Replacement Surgery
The iconic homemaker shared details about her recent hip replacement surgery and ongoing physical therapy during a New York City event.

Martha Stewart, 85, has disclosed that she recently underwent hip replacement surgery. The revelation came during an intimate event hosted by her skincare brand, Elm Biosciences, on September 9 in New York City.
Stewart shared the news, stating, "I had a hip replacement recently," as reported by The Daily Beast. She also mentioned that she has been working with a physical therapist since the procedure but did not specify the exact date of the surgery.
Hip replacement is a surgical procedure that involves replacing the hip joint with an artificial implant, often performed to alleviate intense pain or mobility issues. According to Cleveland Clinic, patients typically experience significant pain reduction and improved mobility, such as easier walking and stair climbing, after recovery, which usually takes six to 12 weeks.
Despite the surgery, Stewart continues to maintain an active lifestyle. She informed event attendees that she regularly attends the gym at 6:30 a.m. for workouts that include Pilates and weightlifting. "I live a very healthy life," Stewart stated. "I certainly don't feel like an old person. I hope I don't look like an old person."
Stewart also discussed her healthy eating habits, noting that she prepares most of her meals herself and consumes eggs from her own chickens.
This is not Stewart's first hip replacement. She underwent her initial surgery in 2007 after experiencing hip pain for two years. At that time, she described the prospect of major surgery as frightening but necessary due to persistent pain that impacted her ability to perform yoga poses and walk without limping. Doctors discovered that the cartilage between her femur and hip socket had worn away, causing the discomfort. Upon waking from that surgery, she reported feeling significant relief from pain.
