'Marshals' Season 2 Premieres October 4 With High Stakes and New Additions
The Yellowstone prequel returns to CBS and Paramount+ with a focus on escalating dangers, character development, and the arrival of a familiar face from the original series.
Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" universe continues to expand with the second season of "Marshals," set to premiere on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The series, a sequel spin-off, garnered significant attention following its debut, leading to an early renewal announcement in March 2026.
Showrunner Spencer Hudnut indicated that Season 2 will aim to elevate the stakes seen in the first season. "We’re really trying to up the stakes in Season 2," Hudnut stated. "We have a lot of exciting twists and turns. We’re upping our production value. We get helicopters, we got a bronc riding team, we have a rodeo." The goal is to provide viewers with more of what resonated in Season 1 while delving deeper into the characters.
The Season 1 finale left several storylines open-ended. Cruz was preparing to transfer to Washington D.C., while Belle and Cal found themselves in the midst of a shootout as Cal underwent cancer treatment. Kayce's relationship with Dolly was evolving, and his son Tate was heading to Texas with the season's antagonist, Tom Weaver. Season 2 will pick up these threads, exploring the consequences of the previous season's events.
Luke Grimes, who reprises his role as Kayce Dutton, shared insights into his character's journey. Kayce will grapple with trust issues, particularly concerning his relationships, as he questions whether he is the cause of misfortune befalling those close to him. "He starts to wonder if he should maybe ever open up again. It affects him in a big, big way," Grimes said.
One of the most anticipated additions to "Marshals" Season 2 is the return of Jefferson White as Jimmy Hurdstrom, a character beloved from the original "Yellowstone" series. "Jimmy’s coming to East Camp," Hudnut confirmed. "He’ll be spending time in Montana. He’ll be getting to know this team, this newfound family for Kayce."
The premiere episode of Season 2, titled "All Hat No Cattle," will see Kayce race against time to save his son Tate, who has been taken hostage. This event will uncover a criminal operation linked to the East Camp land grab, leading to a dangerous confrontation.
"Marshals" will air Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, with the exception of the October 4 premiere, which will air at 8:30 p.m. ET due to an NFL doubleheader.
Meanwhile, "Dutton Ranch," another "Yellowstone" spin-off starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, is slated to begin production in early 2027 for its second season, with a premiere expected in 2027. While a crossover between "Marshals" and "Dutton Ranch" has not been confirmed, both Grimes and cast members from "Dutton Ranch" have expressed openness to the possibility in the future.
